Getty House Foundation Civic Grant Programs

Looking for a way to enhance your civic education lesson? Getty House Foundation (GHF) invites you to apply for a civic education grant to enhance 3rd, 4th and 5th grade curriculum in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Submit
an online grant request for up to $1,000 for an individual project and up to $3,000 for a joint project.
Teachers, librarians, administrators and school media specialists are eligible to apply on behalf of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classrooms within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Funding is for projects that enhance classroom instruction

5th Annual Fruit Tree Giveaway 2011

Proyecto Jardin partners with Tree People to bring over 200 fruit trees to Boyle Heights and adjacent communities. This helps counter effects of carbon emissions and simultaneously increases access to affordable, pesticide-free,
fresh fruit. Throughout the year, Proyecto Jardin offer workshops in tree care and maintenance as well as integrated pest management to eliminate reliance of harmful pesticides.

Sereno’s “Our Downtown” Huntington Drive Pedestrian Improvement Project
Councilmember José Huizar invites you to attend the second workshop of El Sereno’s “Our Downtown” Huntington Drive Pedestrian Improvement Project.
Join us for the second workshop of the El Sereno’s “Our Downtown” Huntington Drive Pedestrian Improvement Project workshop on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Barrio Action and Youth Center located at 4927
Huntington Drive.
During the first workshop, a large group of residents viewed a PowerPoint presentation on ideas and suggestions of what our Huntington Drive could look like once the creative and low-cost pedestrian’s improvements are completed on this highly transited business corridor.
Councilmember Huizar urges you to keep up your enthusiasm and attend the second workshop with your friends and neighbors as we move forward with the implementation of your suggestions and great ideas on the design and installation of these enhancements.

Councilmember Huizar fought for Boyle Heights to be a pilot area for the SurveyLA program. SurveyLA – the Los Angeles Historic Resources Survey – is Los Angeles' first-ever comprehensive program that will identify and highlight the many historic and cultural treasures in Boyle Heights. The survey marks a coming-of-age for Los Angeles' historic preservation movement, and will serve as a centerpiece for the City’s first truly comprehensive preservation program. Light refreshments, activities for children, and walking tours of historic properties along Boyle Avenue will be offered, free of charge.

El Sereno’s ‘"Our Downtown” Vision Plan Workshop Monday

Councilmember José Huizar invites interested residents, business owners and community stakeholders to join him for the second workshop of the ‘Our Downtown’ Vision Plan. The Vision Plan involves the design and installation of creative, low cost pedestrian improvements on designated sections of Huntington Drive. The community is invited to participate in the selection of which improvements are to be built, including decisions on design. Some initial concepts include: * Building of creative, low cost public spaces, such as a plaza or mini-park * Installation of creative, low cost neighborhood identity markers that foster a sense of place * Community involvement in the design and implementation of bicycle lanes already included in the City of Los Angeles Bicycle Master Plan We look forward to your participation in this exciting initiative! Join Councilmember José Huizar, the Office of Historic Resources, Department of Cultural Affairs, Community Redevelopment Agency, The Boyle Heights Historical Society, and The Los Angeles Conservancy as we celebrate the first- ever comprehensive pilot survey program: SurveyLA that will identify significant historic resources throughout our city.
Councilmember Huizar fought for Boyle Heights to be a pilot area for the SurveyLA program. SurveyLA – the Los Angeles Historic Resources Survey – is Los Angeles' first-ever comprehensive program that will identify and highlight the many historic and cultural treasures in Boyle Heights. The survey marks a coming-of-age for Los Angeles' historic preservation movement, and will serve as a centerpiece for the City’s first truly comprehensive preservation program. Light refreshments, activities for children, and walking tours of historic properties along Boyle Avenue will be offered, free of charge.
